4. Location
Ghent
Ghent (Gent/Gand) is situated in the Dutch-speaking part of Belgium (the region of Flanders), at about 60 kilometres of the capital, Brussels. Most international travelers will arrive in Brussels: either at the Brussels National Airport or at railway station Brussels Midi (station of arrival for international trains, Eurostar or Thalys). In both cases, the cheapest and easiest way to travel from Brussels to Ghent is by train. Although taxies are readily available and can be convenient, they are quite expensive. Train connections are reliable and frequent. The journey takes no more than 30 minutes. Tickets can be bought at the station. For more information, please visit the Belgian railway website where you can consult timetables. Beware that Brussels South Airport is not located in Brussels, but in Charleroi. From there it is still a two-hour journey to Leuven.
